David Lidington: “Self-determination is on of the main principles for the OSCE Minsk group towards the peaceful solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict”

1347976313_lidington“UK wants peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia to be established within the OSCE Minsk group’s peaceful talks”, the UK minister for Europe David Lidington said in Yerevan, APA reports quoting Armenian press.  He mentioned that the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict meets the interests of both the region and Europe: “UK is interested in assistance for restoration of peace and stability in the South Caucasus. This isn’t an ordinary place on the world map this is a part of Europe for us. We have close relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia; we have commercial interests that will support peaceful solution of the conflict”.


European Commissioner and MEPs Call for More Active EU Role in Nagorno-Karabakh Settlement

1347976010_european-commission-logo-300Numerous Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) commented during the debate and adoption of a Joint Resolution on the Ramil Safarov case in the European Parliament’s (EP) Plenary session on 13 September. The debate focused on the case of Ramil Safarov, a member of the Azerbaijani armed forces, who was recently transferred from Hungary to Azerbaijan after serving a prison sentence for the murder of an Armenian officer. There was concern amongst some MEPs that political actors and Armenia were using the debate to divert attention from the realities of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the ongoing humanitarian plight of 875,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.


French President expresses gratitude to his Azerbaijani counterpart

The President of Azerbaijan and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva also attended the ceremony.
French President François Hollande welcomed the President, and the first lady of Azerbaijan.


Azerbaijanian officer Ramil Safarov was pardoned!!!

1347697062_binbasi-ramil-seferovAzerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov convicted earlier in Hungary was extradited to his home country in 31 August, 2012 and shortly thereafter he was pardoned by an order of President Ilham Aliyev.
Safarov, 35, was handed down a life sentence without the right to a parole for 30 years on charges of killing Armenian serviceman Gurgen Markaryan, who insulted the Azerbaijani flag during a NATO course in Budapest. The Azerbaijani public condemned the Hungarian court’s harsh sentence, which was pronounced in April 2006 after a lengthy trial.
